# From the order to the day it opens

The card only carries the key. The bitcoin sits on the blockchain, at an address nobody can spend from before the opening day.

## Step by step

1. **You order.** You enter the name, the opening day and a message. Your browser makes a key and encrypts it with the family password.
2. **We make the card.** We engrave the encrypted key onto it. We never see the password, so we never see the key.
3. **You fund it.** You buy bitcoin from a licensed provider, who sends it straight to the card’s address.
4. **You give it.** The card, plus the sealed envelope with the password. Keep them in different places.
5. **The years go by.** Check the balance with your phone whenever you like. Anyone can add to it in the meantime.
6. **The day comes.** With the card and the password, they move the bitcoin into their own wallet. They don’t need us for that.

## What you’ll need to do

- Give us their name, the opening day and a short message.
- Write the 6-word password on the card in the box.
- Show ID to the provider when you fund it.

## Worth knowing

- We show the password once and can’t recover it.
- The opening day is final. It can’t be moved earlier, not even in an emergency.
- Keep the card and the envelope apart, and tell someone where they are.
- We will never ask for the password. Anyone who does in our name is a scammer.
